52 Ancestors 2023 Week 17: Pets

This week's prompt of "Pets" is kind of a challenge.  I have no evidence anywhere that anyone in my family had pets.  On my husband's side, his mother's stepmother apparently had a gift for taming stray dogs and turning them into wonderful family pets.

But all of that changed in my generation when I acquired a cat when I was a teenager, and my sister, who was married by then, started a long line of dogs and cats.  Our parents were flummoxed.  My husband's family had a bird, a basset hound, and then my brother-in-law had a long line of dogs.  Actually, my husband and I also ended up with a lovely Golden Retriever who stayed with us 12 and a half years.  Our children all have pets.

So, I don't know what the earlier generations had against pets.  This generation and the next and actually, the next after that, have really loved our animal companions.  It's going to remain a mystery to me but I'm really glad that we have broken the petless chain.
