52 Ancestors: week 38 of 2022, New to You

OK, I have nearly totally blown this off but I am still interested in genealogy and I think that I will be returning to these topics and writing because I just broke my right arm this past Friday and can't sew for now.  I've been doing research and loving the 1950 census data (oh my gosh, like a snapshot of very small town America!) but at some point I thought "maybe I should do something with maternal mitochondrial DNA."  So, with no particular research about how to even understand this data, nevermind that I still have to figure out the whole GEDCOM thing for my family tree on Ancestry (no, I will not be uploading anyone else's tree to my own tree), I sent for the kit from Family Tree.  I appreciated not having to spit for this test, though I may be the most incompetent inner cheek scraper on the planet.  But, good enough, and I have gotten my results.  I have been contacted by one near match who randomly lives just about 100 miles south of me--and then I broke my arm after already having had COVID for two weeks.

So to recap:  sent sample to Family Tree in  August.  Came down with COVID on September 9th.  Broke arm on September 23rd, while still testing positive.  On September 24th, my husband tested positive.  I will admit that clear thinking for this period has been in short supply.

But, New to Me has been the mtDNA.  I hope to learn more about it and how to use it over the next few months.  It will give me a more global view of my ancestors and make me stretch my mental muscles at the same time.
