The prompt for Week 4 is "Close To Home." I live only about 20 miles east of where I was born, but my family left the valley when I was ten: my parents and sister had moved here in 1949, I was born in 1955, and we left in 1965. My sister and her husband moved back around 25 years ago, and my husband and I came here to live in 2016. And then I started digging in Ancestry My sister has a vague memory of hearing that our grandfather had done some roofing here in the Valley during the 1930s but so far I haven't seen any evidence of that. What I have found is that my father's youngest brother was born about ten miles from my current house in 1925, confirmed by his birth certificate, and that my father's half-sister (he was not fond of her so we'll honor that half) was briefly married to a man in the same town, in the late 1920s...

I'm starting this blog because I've started following a genealogy page that has writing prompts for every week this year and just putting them on my Facebook feed isn't doing it for me. Also, they are kind of hard to find. And further, there have been some really fun things coming up in my Ancestry research that I'd like to share and not everyone I know want to see them, though some people do. So I'll try to write my response to the prompts here and link them back to the Facebook page that is the source of the prompts. L to R: Mom (Ruth), Uncle Dwight, and Aunt Dodo (Laurel May)
